Marine Corps License Plates may be issued to any Illinois resident who served in the United States Marine Corps.

Proceeds from this plate goes into the Marine Corps Scholarship Fund, to provide grants for scholarships for higher education. The recipients must be children of current or former members of the United States Marine Corps who meet the requirements established by the fund. They must be Illinois residents and must attend a college or university located within the State of Illinois.

Random-Number Marine Corps License Plates

  • Newly acquired vehicle/first-time issuance - $199
    ($95 title fee + $99 registration fee +$5 Marine Corps license plates fee)
  • Currently titled vehicle/first-time issuance - $104
    ($99 registration fee +$5 Marine Corps license plates fee)
  • Current plates expire within 90 days - $133
    ($99 registration fee +$5 Marine Corps license plates fee + $29 replacement fee)
  • Current plates do not expire within 90 days - $34
    ($5 Marine Corps license plates fee + $29 replacement fee)
  • Annual renewal - $117
    ($99 registration fee + $18 Marine Corps license plates fee)

(NOTE: to switch from a current random-numbered Marine Corps license plates to a vanity/personalized Marine Corps license plates will cost $29 replacement fee.)

To Apply

  • One must provide a legible copy of a DD214 (discharge from military service) or a letter of verification from the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs or the federal government or a current DD Form 2 (U.S. Uniformed Service Identification Card) verifying service record.
  • The request can only be processed in Springfield. Apply in person or mail the proper documentation to:

Availability

  • Marine Corps license plates are multi-year and may be displayed on passenger vehicles, trucks and vans weighing 8,000 pounds or less and sport utility vehicles.
  • Eligible for Circuit Breaker
