Korean War Veteran

Korean War Veteran License Plates may be issued to any Illinois resident who served in the U.S. Armed Forces between June 27, 1950, and July 27, 1954, within the territorial limits of Korea or in waters immediately adjacent thereto, and who has been awarded the Korean War Service Medal or a letter from the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs or federal government verifying service record is required.

Random-Number Korean War Veteran License Plates

  • First-time issuance - $194
    ($95 title fee + $99 registration fee)
  • First-time issuance - $99
    ($99 registration fee)
  • Current plates expire within 90 days - $128
    ($99 registration fee + $29 replacement fee)
  • Current plates do not expire within 90 days - $29
    ($29 replacement fee)
  • Annual renewal - $99
    ($99 registration fee)

(NOTE: to switch from a current random-numbered Korean War Veteran license plates to a vanity/personalized Korean War Veteran license plates will cost $29 replacement fee.)

Vanity Korean War Veteran License Plates

  • First-time issuance - $194

To Apply

  • One must provide a photocopy of DD214 (discharge from military service) indicating applicant received a Korean War Service Medal (KSM), or a letter of verification from the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs or the federal government showing applicant's service record.
  • Applicants who do not have this information may contact:

Availability

  • Korean War Veteran license plates are multi-year and may be displayed on passenger vehicles, trucks and vans weighing 8,000 pounds or less, sport utility vehicles, recreational vehicles and recreational trailers.
  • Eligible for Circuit Breaker unless plates are on recreational vehicle or recreational trailer.
