Secretary of State Jesse White sponsored a contest for elementary school children to design the new education license plate.
Danae Fuqua, a fifth grade student from Grace McWayne School, created the winning design. Her design was chosen out of more than 9,000 entries.
Proceeds from the sale of these plates go the Illinois Future Teacher Corps Scholarship Fund. This fund is used to provide scholarships to full-time undergraduate and graduate students pursuing their teacher certification in Illinois. A portion of the funds also goes to the State Board of Education for grants to the Golden Apple Foundation which annually recognizes outstanding teachers in the state.
