Effective January 30th 2012 any individual applying for a renewal, corrected, duplicate or upgrading to a Commercial Drivers license (CDL) that individual must certify as which category of driver you are or intend to be. The (4) four choices are:
1. Non-excepted interstate driver (NI)
2. Excepted interstate driver (EI)
3. Non-excepted intrastate driver (NA)
4. Excepted intrastate driver (EA)
If you choose #1 option then your current DOT Medical Card must be given to the facility employees prior to be allowed to continue. All pertinent medical information which we need from your medical card will be loaded onto your driver's file.
If you choose any other numbered option the individual will be allowed to be processed.
If you are unsure please check with your employer or prospective employer as to which option you should choose.
The employees of the office of the Illinois Secretary of State cannot nor will not have this information as to which category you intend to drive in.
Some guidelines for you to follow from the time that you are attempting to schedule your pre-trip, skills or road exam, you must allow 48 hours before the computer will accept your appointment. Also, after scheduling your appointment and if you were to fail that exam on your appointed day, you must allow at least 48 hours before you can schedule your next attempt. You are only allowed to schedule one appointment for yourself at a time. For example, if you schedule an appointment for yourself at a facility on Monday, you cannot also schedule yourself an appointment for Tuesday in case you did not pass on Monday. In addition, once you schedule an appointment and are needing to cancel an appointment or wishing to cancel and reschedule, both situations can be accomplished by accessing the FAST PASS system and following the prompts.
To make an appointment by telephone, you may call 217-785-3013 Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to schedule a Monday - Saturday appointment at one of our CDL facilities.
If you are attempting to use the Illinois FAST PASS system and it will not allow you to schedule your CDL appointment, please call 217-785-3013 for further assistance in helping with your appointment.
