Entering Search Criteria
Enter the name of the father, mother or child
in the format: last name comma space first name space middle initial (for example, Smith, John D). The child
often did not have a first name when the
birth was recorded. When the first name of
the child did not appear in the records,
(not given) will appear after the last name.
The first name and middle initial may be
omitted to accomplish a surname search. Searches
are not case sensitive: you may use any combination
of upper and lower case letters. The following
types of searches may be conducted:
- Enter the name of the father only to return
a list of fathers for the name you entered.
- Enter the name of the mother only to return
a list of mothers for the name you entered.
- Enter the name of a child only to return
a list of children for the name you entered.
- Enter both the names of the father and child
to return a list of births meeting both criteria.
- Enter both the names of the mother and child
to return a list of births meeting both criteria.
If you cannot find a person for whom you
believe there is a birth certificate, try
broadening your search by entering only a
portion of the surname (e.g., John instead of Johnson) or by typing variations of the spelling
of a surname (such as Johnson and Johnsen).
