The Regional Transportation Authority Legislative Advisory Committee was created by the General Assembly in 1974 to meet with the Regional Transportation Authority, its officers, and staff to review authority policies and procedures. It was to report biennially to the General Assembly any recommendations for changes in related legislation. It was composed of two House members appointed by the Speaker, three House members appointed by the minority leader, two Senate members appointed by the president pro tempore, and three Senate members appointed by the minority leader. Ex officio members included the chairperson of the House Committee on Transportation and the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Transportation and Public Utilities. Appointed members were to reside in the territory of the authority (P.A. 78-1180, pp. 1073-1074). The Regional Transportation Authority had been created in 1973 to design, construct, and operate a system of public railroad transportation for Cook,
DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will Counties (P.A. 78-3rd Spec. Sess.-5, pp. 3192-3193). The Regional Transportation Authority Legislative Advisory Committee was abolished by the Legislative Commission Reorganization Act of 1984 (P.A. 83-1257, p. 1176).

Files include meeting minutes and agendas, transcripts of testimonies, study reports, financial and compliance audits of the committee, copies of proposed and enacted legislation, and related memoranda and correspondence. Subjects include fare increases, service cutbacks, financial status, alternative revenue sources, union workers, policies, budgets, and capital needs.
